The Ethics Committee's work is based on two decrees of the University of St.Gallen: the «Regulations for the Ethics Committee» and the «Code of Academic Integrity».
The Committee advises and decides on the admissability of research projects with individuals and animals as well as research projects with personal or organizational data that is conducted by members of the University of St.Gallen
Before commencing any research project, the Ethics Committee of the University of St.Gallen should be consulted in the following cases :
a) Research involving the examination with individuals,
- entailing risks to health or mental strain;
- which may trigger strong negative emotions (e.g. disgust, anger, fear);
- in which participants are discriminated on the basis of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or political views;
- in which participants are required to recount traumatic experiences;
- in which student participants' self‐perception is severely questioned through manipulation;
- involving minors;
- in which participants are knowingly misled;
- which is ethically problematic for other reasons.
b) Research involving data relating to individuals or organizations.
c) Research which endangers animal welfare.
d) Research that can harm the well-being of uninvolved third parties.
Regardless of the Ethics Committee's assessment, the scientists conducting the research shall always remain responsible for their own actions.

Applications may be submitted by faculty members and scientific researches with PhD.
